The following guide was compiled as an attempt to review the current literature on and opinion of the state of environmental education at the national, state, and local level by various agencies, including critics as well as supporters.
Science has provided us with greater insight into our global environment, but this information is often difficult to disseminate and make practically available for the public, especially as new data is constantly gathered and speculations made.
It is imperative as educators and environmentalists to stay informed and maintain a current database from which to refer and draw sound conclusions.
By no means does this guide claim to be all-inclusive. As anyone who uses the Internet for research can attest to, it is virtually impossible to not look at one site without finding several others linked to it and still others linked to them. In this respect, utilizing the Internet for its wealth of information can not only be a very daunting task, but also an extremely time-consuming one. It was in response to this that the guide was developed. It is designed to serve as a reference that can be used to locate information on the Internet quickly.
The web-sites have been placed in several
categories and within each category are the individual web-sites. The name and address have been provided as well as a description of the information found there. Most of the descriptions consist of information taken directly from the sites, often with a few editorial comments and suggestions. The goal therefore is to use the descriptions in the guide to choose a site to go to directly without having to spend time doing an extensive web search.
