I love to learn.  More importantly, I love to share that learning with others.  Without realizing it, I had been teaching throughout the various jobs I have had during my educational career.  Whether I was tutoring college and high school students or assisting customers in selecting the right plant for the right place in their landscape, I have been sharing my knowledge and love of learning with others.  It just took me a while to realize my calling in life and eventually discover the joint degree program in teaching and environmental management allowing me to combine my love of learning as well as my love of nature.

The most rewarding aspect of my experiences this year has been the interactions with my students.  I cannot imagine a better feeling than knowing that you have inspired someone and provided a good role model for their future educational careers.  Not only was my goal to inspire my students but also to instill in them a love of learning.  I wanted to bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and support to my students now and in the future, whether they are two or fifty-two.  The basics skills and lessons that I have learned during this time are universal and will enable me to work with various audiences in the future.  As an educator, horticulturist, and soon-to-be environmental manager, I have learned the importance of finding varied and appealing methods of engaging students in their pursuit of scientific knowledge while making that knowledge accessible and attractive to all levels and interests.

This has been one of the most challenging and mentally, physically, and emotionally exhaustive experiences in my educational career.  I cannot remember a time when I have worked harder nor made such sacrifices personally and professionally in order to successfully complete a program of study.  But I can honestly say that it has been worth it.  The meaningful and memorable interactions with my students as well as the professional experiences gained during this time have only strengthened my desire to become an educator and work towards my ultimate goal of serving as a source of inspiration, motivation, and encouragement for my future students whomever they may be.
